The increasing number of Michigan bike ride and race events is a great indicator of the growing popularity of riding bicycles in our state. However, it has created a challenge for race and ride organizers to hold their events on dates that don’t conflict with other events. And with the COVID-19 outbreak this year, organizers are scrambling to reschedule their spring events to later in the year. If the virus is under control enough to proceed in a safe and legal manner, late summer and fall should be loaded with cycling events in Michigan!
Keeping track of the dates of the existing Michigan bike ride events and numerous rescheduled events can be a challenge, so the Michigan Bicycle Law team is keeping an updated event calendar, including dates for rescheduled events and any cancellations. Be sure to head to our events page to see if your event schedule has been changed.
With many other types of events happening online, some bike races are getting creative and moving to virtual ‘events’, such as the Cogs & Kegs Ride in June. Check out their Virtual Cycling Challenge Flyer and keep your eyes out for innovative ways to stay connected with the bike community as we continue to transition out of the COVID-19 State-of-Emergency.
Bike safety is our top priority, and though we are saddened that we will have to wait to connect with the Michigan bicycle community in person, it is reassuring to see event organizers also making safety a priority. Michigan Bicycle Law continues to support the cycling community and will move any 2020 sponsorships from canceled Michigan bike ride events to 2021 while continuing to be a resource in legal matters, community recognition, and event updates.
